What is a Embossed Business Card?
Embossing is a process where pressure from a press along with metal dies are used to add a three-dimensional or raised effect on selected areas of a business card. Embossing can be used different ways: (1) Blind emboss, so that the image is raised but not inked/foiled. (2) Register emboss, so that the image is raised and also inked/foiled.
Embossing on 38pt stock requires the printing of two 19pt business cards. The first "top" business card is embossed and machined glued to the second "bottom" business card. This layering process is permanent and will produce a total paper thickness of: 19pt + 19pt = 38pt stock.
Note: Blind embossing will have a much more subtle effect than register embossing. Blind embossing is not recommended for fine details or small text.
